Following a final attempt to sell her deal to Parliament, Prime Minister Theresa May presented her proposed Withdrawal Agreement Bill, containing 10 points including concessions such as a vote on a second referendum, and a commitment to examining alternative arrangements to the backstop. After her proposal met with significant opposition from within both her own party and the opposition, the Prime Minister announced the date for her resignation, which will take place on 7 June 2019.

This week’s Brexit Brief details the chain of events leading to Theresa May’s resignation, examines the procedure for the election of a new Conservative Party leader, and outlines the results of the European elections in the UK.

Brexit Brief, published by the IIEA’s UK Project Group, covers developments in the on-going debate over the UK’s vote to Leave the European Union. It is part of a wider communications programme, which will be highlighted on the Institute’s website.
