About the Speech:
In his address to the IIEA, Commissioner Krähenbühl discussed the situation of Palestinian refugees and the contribution UNRWA has made to promoting stability in the region. Commissioner Krähenbühl argued that the absence of a political solution has cast a shadow over too many lives and that these lives should be defined by opportunity rather than despair. The Commissioner stressed that in a world affected by many other armed conflict and crises, it is vital that the international community not forget the situation of Palestine refugees.
About the Speaker:
Pierre Krähenbühl took up his position as Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on 30 March 2014. A Swiss national born in 1966, Mr. Krähenbühl has over 25 years of experience in humanitarian, human rights and development work. Prior to joining UNRWA, he served as Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross from July 2002 to January 2014.
