About the Speech:

Ms Brill, who was at the forefront of negotiations of the EU/US Privacy Shield, addressed members on her view of the impact of the Privacy Shield on the EU in the future. She argued that decisions on the proposed Privacy Shield agreement, which will replace the Safe Harbour agreement on data protection will have sweeping implications for regulators, businesses and consumers all over the world. She contended that the adoption of the robust consumer safeguards and clear guidelines for businesses in the Privacy Shield, will bring about a powerful new mechanism for ensuring that the flow of data respects the privacy of European citizens.
