About the Speech:
In his address, Director-General Buti outlined his vision of what still needs to be done to renew and strengthen economic growth in the euro area. Mr. Buti emphasised the need for a “three-pronged strategy” that finds the correct balance between monetary policy, fiscal policy and structural reforms.
About the Speaker:
Marco Buti has been Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the Commission since December 2008, prior to which he was Deputy Director-General. Mr. Buti was Director of Economies of Member States from September 2003 to August 2006. He also served as an economic advisor to the Commission President in 2002-03. Mr. Buti has been a Visiting Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the University of Florence and the European University Institute.
