In his address to the IIEA, Commissioner Hogan discussed the future of Ireland in the EU, and the EU’s role on the global stage in the post-Brexit era. He also discussed the need to defend European achievements and values in the face of growing populism.

 

About the Speaker:

Phil Hogan is the European Union’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, a position he has held since November 2014. He previously served as Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government from March 2011 until July 2014. He was first elected to the Dáil in 1989 and regained his seat at each subsequent General Election. Between 1987 and 1989, he was a member of Seanad Éireann (Upper House of Parliament). He was Chairman of the Fine Gael (EPP) parliamentary party between 1995 and 2001.
