About the Speech:
In his address to the IIEA, Dr Adriaan Schout argued that the Netherlands has been one of the most pro-EU Member States, and has continually supported EU integration since its role as a founding member of the EEC in 1957. Dr Schout assessed the changing Dutch-EU relationship and will argue that a new narrative and more pragmatic approach towards the EU has been adopted by the Dutch Government. He also discussed the emerging EU-critical counter narrative influencing the debate on the future of the EU in the Netherlands.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Adriaan Schout is Senior Research Fellow and Coordinator Europe the Clingendael Institute. In addition, he is member of the EU Advisory Committee to the Dutch Government. He has worked on projects addressing issues of the EU presidency, EU integration and improving EU regulation, amongst others. Prior to joining Clingendael, he served as an independent expert in the field of EU governance for the Economic and Social Committee (2006) and for the Directorate-General for Research of the European Commission.
