In his address to the IIEA, Baron van Daele took stock of the short and long-term repositioning of the major global powers, and analysed the underlying drivers for these shifts in light of the second wave of globalisation. Within this context, he examined what role the European Union can play in such a changing international order.
About the Speaker:
Baron van Daele spent a number of decades serving with distinction in the Belgian foreign service. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff to His Majesty the King of the Belgians from 2013 to 2017. From November 2009 to November 2012, he served as Chef de Cabinet to President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy. He also held a number of other positions including: Permanent Representative of Belgium to the EU, Belgian Ambassador to the US and Permanent Representative of Belgium to NATO.
