In the months leading up to the German Federal Elections on 24 September 2017, the IIEA will produce a monthly Germany Brief, which analyses current events in German domestic politics. This first issue of the Germany Brief examines developments in German party politics, particularly with regard to the Social Democratic Party’s reshuffle and the impact that the candidacy of former European Parliament President Martin Schulz for the chancellorship has had. It also assesses the tensions between Germany and Turkey leading up to the latter’s upcoming constitutional referendum on 16 April and provides an update on Germany’s G20 chairmanship.
