The German Federal elections, which will take place on 24 September 2017, are entering their final phase. With Martin Schulz trailing Angela Merkel’s CDU/CSU by fourteen points, the focus in Germany has shifted to the smaller parties and the question of which party will finish third has become especially important.

This issue of the Germany Brief will give a general overview of the manifestos of all six parties likely to enter the 19thBundestag. Immigration, taxation and digitisation have dominated the campaign on the domestic front in Germany.This Germany Brief, however, focuses on four key areas, which will determine next German government’s European policy: Brexit, the Future of the EUSecurity and Defence and Foreign Policy.
