About the Speech
As a small country with one of the most globalised economies in the world, Ireland is profoundly influenced by changes on the global political and economic stage. In this address to the IIEA, Taoiseach Enda Kenny examined the challenges posed by these volatile times, with particular reference to the UK’s EU withdrawal, and discussed how Ireland should respond to the rapidly changing global environment.
About the Speaker
Enda Kenny was elected Taoiseach, in March, 2011 and re-elected for a second term in May 2016. First elected to the Dáil in a by-election in the Mayo West constituency in 1975, Mr Kenny has been re-elected to the Dáil at the 11 subsequent General Elections. He has previously held Government positions including: Minister for Tourism and Trade from 1994 to 1997, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, from 1986 to 1987. He was elected Leader of Fine Gael in June 2002.
