About the Speech:
In 2016, Portugal celebrates its 30th anniversary as a member of the European Union. The country has come a long way since 1986, a mere 12 years after the overthrow of a dictatorship that ruled over Portugal for 48-years. In her address, Minister Marques spoke about Portugal and the European Union and how Portugal has managed to grow and develop successfully alongside its European partners.
About the Speaker:
Prior to her current position as Secretary of State for European Affairs, Ms Marques had a successful career in the European Commission and was Head of the European Commission Representation in Portugal, among other postions. She has Masters degrees in Science Education and Development from the Nova University in Lisbon and Mathematics and Statistics from the Faculty of Science at the Unversity of Lisbon.
