In his presentation to the IIEA, Nicolas Véron argued that the UK’s vote to leave the European Union has created a new set of parameters for EU policy and will have structural consequences for the dynamics of European integration. His presentation offered a holistic assessment of possible medium-term consequences for the EU and, in particular, its financial system.
About the Speaker:
Nicolas Véron is Senior Fellow at Bruegel, the Brussels based economic policy think tank that he co-founded between 2002 and 2005. He joined the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington DC in 2009. His primary areas of research include financial systems and financial services policy, on which he has published widely since 2002. He has been a witness at numerous parliamentary hearings in the US Senate, European Parliament, and in several EU Member States; a financial policy expert for the European Commission and Court of Auditors; and a consultant to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. A graduate of France’s Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Mines, his earlier experience includes senior positions in the French government and private sector in the 1990s and early 2000s.
