In his keynote address to the IIEA, Stefan Lehne gave a critical analysis of the foreign policy instruments of the EU established in the Lisbon Treaty and their efficacy in the current international climate. He argued that the current policy architecture impedes collective action and outlined his proposals for a consolidated and realistic EU foreign policy, equipped to manage the internal and external challenges of the 21st Century.
About the Speaker:
Stefan Lehne is a Visiting Scholar at Carnegie Europe in Brussels where his area of research focuses on the post-Lisbon Treaty development of the EU’s foreign policy. He was previously Director General for Political Affairs in the Austrian Foreign Ministry, Vienna, and Director for the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe in the EU Council Secretariat, Brussels. He lectures at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
