About the Speech:
The European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement is the cornerstone of relations between Norway and the EU. Though not a member of the Union, Norway has particularly close ties with the EU and its Member States. The “Norwegian Model” has been in the spotlight since the UK voted to leave the EU, as it represents an alternative model to EU membership. In her address, Minister Vik Aspaker will discuss the EEA agreement, the benefits of the arrangement to Norway and the EU, and Norway’s perspective on the future of the EEA and the EU.
About the Speaker:
Elisabeth Vik Aspaker has been Minister of EEA and EU Affairs as well as Minister of Nordic Cooperation since 2015. Prior to this, she served as Minister of Fisheries from 2013 to 2015 and as State Secretary at the Ministry of Health in 2004. She was first elected to Norwegian Parliament in 2005 having previously served as Deputy Representative to the Parliament. Minister Vik Aspaker is a member of the Norwegian Conservative Party.
