About the speech

The Kingdom of the Netherlands holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU at a challenging time for the European Union. Three fundamental principles will guide the policy work of the Dutch Presidency: focus on essentials such as the principle of subsidiarity; create innovative jobs and growth; and strengthen the connection between the European Union and its citizens. Migration and international security will remain a priority in 2016. The Presidency will also focus on policy areas such as the digital economy, financial services and taxation, international trade agreements, including TTIP, Energy Union and implementation of the COP21 agreement. H.E. Paul Schellekens presented in detail the priorities of the Dutch Presidency.
