About the Speech:
In his address to the IIEA, Commissioner László Andor discussed the recent European Commission reflection paper on the social dimension of Europe, which is part of the future of Europe debate. The paper raises questions on how sustaining standards of living in the EU, creating more and better jobs, equipping people with the right skills and creating more solidarity within the EU. It also raises issues that are not limited to the ‘classical’ areas of social policy, such as globalisation and the EMU. Commissioner Andor gave his perspectives on what kind of social dimension, Europe should be aiming, and what actions can be taken at the European level to respond to the challenges that are faced today.
About the Speaker:
László Andor is Senior Fellow at IMK (Düsseldorf) and Visiting Professor at ULB (Brussels). Commissioner Andor served as EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion from 2010 to 2014. Between 2005 and 2010, he was a member of the Board of Directors at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, representing Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and Croatia. He has been Associate Professor at the Department of Economic Policy (Corvinus University of Budapest) since 2000.
