About the Speech:

The Western Balkans are of significant importance to the EU on critical issues such as security and migration, and the Union has developed a policy to support their gradual integration. This policy has already yielded a successful accession country, in the form of Croatia, but the region continues to present challenges, with many of the states still pursuing much-needed structural reforms. This IIEA and DG NEAR event provided a forum to discuss the current state of play in the region, isolate the challenges ahead, and provided a perspective on the role that regional cooperation can play in guiding the transition and integration of the Western Balkans.
