About the Speech:

The past year has been a volatile one for Europe, encompassing a continuing refugee crisis, the emergence of a new style of terrorism, and of course the UK’s vote to withdraw from the EU. In this context, David O’Sullivan, Ambassador of the European Union to the United States, discussed the future of the EU-US relationship. He highlighted some of the recent successes of transatlantic collaboration, and discussed the challenges ahead.

 

About the Speaker:

David O’Sullivan is the Ambassador of the European Union to the United States and the Head of the EU Delegation to the United States, a role he has held since November 2014.  Prior to this, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of the European External Action Service. In a distinguished, four decade career at the European Commission, he has served as the Director General of DG Trade of the European Commission, Secretary General of the European Commission, Head of Cabinet of Commission President Romano Prodi, and Director General for Education and Training. He began his career in the Irish Foreign Ministry, joining the European Commission in 1979.
