Following a succession of political crises in several countries of the Western Balkan region, the EU has put forward a series of initiatives aimed at reconfirming the perspective of EU accession for the region. In his briefing to IIEA members, Erwan Fouéré discussed whether these initiatives will be enough to restore credibility in the EU’s enlargement policy and to ensure effective reforms in the countries of the region.

 

About the Speaker

Ambassador Erwan Fouéré is an Associate Senior Research Fellow at CEPS. He previously served as Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process. Previously, he held a number of posts in the European Union including as the first EU Special Representative/Head of Delegation to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (2005), the first Head of Delegation to South Africa (1994) and the first Head of Delegation to Mexico and Cuba (1989). He was awarded the Order of Good Hope, Grand Officer, by President Nelson Mandela in 1998.
