This event took place on Monday, 12 February 2018 in University College Cork. Across Europe, citizens are being encouraged to debate their visions for the future of the European Union. Following the Brexit vote, new alliances in an EU of 27 Member States are being forged, and EU leaders have pledged to debate, not dictate, the future shape of the EU. In keeping with this desire for a meaningful debate, following their addresses the Ministers will engage in discussion with a panel of UCC students who will respond and offer their own perspectives on the future of the EU. This panel discussion will be moderated by Alison O’Connor, broadcaster and Irish Examiner columnist.
About the Speakers:
Linas Linkevičius has been Minister for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania since 2012. He was first elected to the Lithuanian Parliament in 1992 and he was previously Minister of National Defence on two occasions, from 1993-1996 and 2000-2004. In the intervening period from 1997-2000, he served as Head of Lithuania’s Mission to the Western European Union and NATO. He served as Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council from 2005-2011.
