On 12 September 2017, Minister Lajčák was appointed President of the United Nations General Assembly for its 72nd session. One year on, as he returns to his post as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, many of the challenges facing Europe still remain. In his keynote address to the Institute, Minister Lajčák outlined the key priorities of his government for the future of the European Union at 27 Member States.
About the Speaker
Miroslav Lajčák has been Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia since April 2012. From September 2017 to September 2018, he served as President of the United Nations General Assembly for the 72nd session. From 2010-2012, he was central to the development of the European External Action Service serving as its Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia. Prior to his political career, he served with distinction in Slovakia’s diplomatic service. Minister Lajčák is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute for International Relations and has a law degree from the Comenius University in Bratislava.
