In his recent book, 9 Lessons in Brexit, Sir Ivan addresses the failures of the political class, and outlines the flaws in the UK’s Brexit strategy thus far. He also argues that the EU should think strategically about the long-term relationship with the UK as an important economic and security partner in the future. In this conversation at the IIEA, Sir Ivan reflects on how the UK can learn from the past two years in an attempt to mitigate the damage from Brexit.
About the Speaker:
Sir Ivan Rogers is a former British civil servant. He initially served in the Treasury, during which time he was Private Secretary to then Chancellor of the Exchequer. In 2011, Sir Ivan was chosen to be Chief EU Advisor to Prime Minister David Cameron. He acted as the UK’s EU, G8 and G20 Sherpa; and attending these summits with the Prime Minister. In 2013, he was appointed Permanent Representative of the UK to the EU. He remained in this role until 2017, when he submitted his resignation. His book, 9 Lessons in Brexit, is currently in the London Times Top 10 non-fiction bestsellers.
