About the Speech:

In his keynote address to the IIEA, Mr Yamagami will discuss the security environment in East Asia. In particular, Mr Yamagami will give his perspective on possible flashpoints in the region, including the Korean Peninsula, the Taiwan Strait, and the South and East China Seas.

 

About the Speaker:

Mr Shingo Yamagami is the Director General of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, a leading Japanese think-tank focusing on foreign affairs and security issues. He first began his career in the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984, and has since held a number of prestigious positions including: Director of the Treaties Division; Political Minister at the Embassy of Japan in London; and Deputy Director-General of the International Legal Affairs Bureau. Between July 2014 and October 2015, he also served as Ambassador responsible for policy planning and international security policy, and Deputy Director General of the Foreign Policy Bureau in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
