The upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins a trio with Finland and Croatia in January 2019, is one of the key points of Victor Negrescu’s mandate as Romanian Minister for European Affairs. In his address to the IIEA, Minister Negrescu outlinde the Romanian vision for the future of the European Union, and the principles and ambitions that underpin his government’s preparations for their Presidency. He drew upon the two central goals which he has set, based on his experience in European politics: to build a national, political and institutional consensus on European affairs, and to raise awareness in the Romanian society about the role of Romania in the European Union, by ensuring democratic access to information of public interest on European issues.

About the Speaker:

A former Member of the European Parliament (2014-2017), Victor Negrescu was the coordinator of S&D40, the network of the young S&D MEPs in the European Parliament. Winner of the MEP Award 2015 for Digital Agenda, Minister Negrescu was also the youngest Romanian MEP ever elected to the European Parliament and he was the youngest ever vice-president of the Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD), between 2015 and 2018. He is also President of PES Activists Romania, an organization gathering more than 10.000 members interested in European issues and politics, a university teacher and a former digital entrepreneur.
