In the second event in the IIEA’s ‘Countdown to Brexit’ series, which took place the day before another crucial Brexit vote in the House of Commons, a panel of experts from Dublin, Belfast and London discuss the current state of play in the debate. Speakers examined the political, economic and business implications of the UK’s withdrawal, as well as the implications for Northern Ireland and the border. This event was chaired by award-winning columnist and author, Martina Devlin.

Speakers included: Dáithí O’Ceallaigh, Former Ambassador of Ireland to the United Kingdom and Chair of the IIEA’s UK Group, which has produced three books on the topic of the UK’s relationship with the European Union; Katy Hayward, Reader in Sociology at Queen’s University Belfast, who has 20 years’ research experience on the impact of the EU on the Irish border and peace process; Edgar Morgenroth, Professor of Economics in the Business School, DCU, who has carried out extensive research on the implications of Brexit for Ireland; and Allie Renison, Head of EU & Trade Policy, Institute of Directors, London, where she represents the voice of IoD members on EU policy matters to Westminster and Whitehall, and to the European institutions.
