Detective Chief Superintendent Pat Clavin explains why Ireland has focused on civil asset seizure. He discusses the unique history and the future direction of the Criminal Assets Bureau which has served as a template across the European Union, including its structure, objectives and functions. He also outlines the creation of the asset profiler network and further discuss some trends around the penetration by criminals of the motor trade, as well as drugs, thefts/burglaries and cryptocurrencies.

Pat Clavin was appointed as Chief Bureau Officer (CBO) of the Criminal Assets Bureau in 2016 to manage and control the administration and business of the Bureau. As a Chief Superintendent, he served in Garda Headquarters and the DMR West Division prior to his appointment as Chief Bureau Officer of CAB.
