About the Speech:
The Eurozone crisis, and the period leading up to it, brought to light some fundamental flaws in the architecture of the single currency and highlighted the need for essential reforms, such as the Banking Union. In his public address at the IIEA, President Dijsselbloem discussed the lessons learned from this period, and drawing on these he offered his ideas for the future of Eurozone governance.
About the Speaker:
Jeroen Dijsselbloem was elected Eurogroup President for a second term on 13 July 2015 by the euro area finance ministers. President Dijsselbloem is the second person to hold the post since the Eurogroup was founded. He is also currently Minister of Finance of the Netherlands and since February 2013 he has served as Chair of the Board of Governors of the European Stability Mechanism.
This event was part of the IIEA’s Future of the EU27 Project, which is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
