Following the publication of the German Council of Economic Experts’ Annual Report on 11 November 2020, Professor Feld offers his analysis of the outlook for the German economy, including within the wider context of the European Union. Professor Feld discusses the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic at EU level and further reflects on the considerable challenge of overcoming a severe recession while confronting the long-term issues of digitalisation, climate action, and demographic change.

About the Speaker:

Professor Feld has been Chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts since March 2020 and is the current Director of the Walter Eucken Institute at the University of Freiburg where he lectures in economic and regulatory policy. Professor Feld is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the German National Academy of Natural Sciences Leopoldina, and the Independent Advisory Board to the German Stability Council. As an advisor to the German Ministry of Finance, he played a crucial role in embedding the debt brake in the German Constitution.
