In her address at the IIEA, Mary Robinson discussed the struggle to secure global justice for those people most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, stressing the importance of fairly allocating burdens associated with climate change and its resolution. She outlined how the Paris Agreement has signalled a concrete commitment by countries to limit global temperature increase to 1.5°C. Mrs Robinson will also discuss how the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals have renewed the international community’s commitment to ending poverty and increasing equality while protecting planetary resources.
About the Speaker:
Mary Robinson is President of the Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice. She served as President of Ireland from 1990-1997 and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997-2002. She sits on the advisory board of Sustainable Energy For All (SE4All) and is also a member of the Lead Group of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement. Between 2013 and 2016, Mrs Robinson served as the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy in three roles; first for the Great Lakes region of Africa, then on Climate Change and most recently as his Special Envoy on El Niño and Climate.
