Brexit: State of Play Briefing

Just three weeks before the European Council of 28-29 June 2018, the UK presented a technical note outlining its vision for the Northern Ireland ‘backstop’. This note outlines the nature of the UK’s proposal, how it differs from the EU’s own proposal, and notes some of the more problematic aspects of the proposed solution. The briefing also contains an outline of the progress made in the negotiations to date.
