About the Speech:

In her address, Ms Stihler will outline how the debate surrounding copyright law has shifted since it began in 2015. Referring to a report on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on copyright in the Digital Single Market, published in February 2017, she will examine what is currently being discussed and what actions are being taken by the Legal Affairs committee (JURI). She will focus on three key areas: text and data mining (TDM), press publishers rights and the ‘value gap.’

Catherine Stihler has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1999. She is Vice Chair of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO), and is a founding member of the Campaign for Parliamentary Reform.

Today, the IIEA will host a major international seminar on delivering the DSM providing insights from the Irish, Norwegian and Estonian Governments and from the European Commission. This seminar, which will be moderated by Joyce O'Connor, Chair of the IIEA's Digital Future Working Group, is co-hosted by the Estonian and Norwegian Embassies to coincide with their respective Presidencies of the European Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
