The European Commission’s Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) oversees the Connecting Europe Facility, a €30 billion fund that designates and provides funding to Projects of Common Interest (PICs), major infrastructure projects in the European Union. Some of these PCIs will have significant implications for Ireland’s security of supply in both electricity and gas post-Brexit. The “Celtic Interconnector” between Ireland and France, for example, will be Ireland’s only electricity interconnection with the European Union after Brexit and is a central tenet of the Government’s National Development Plan 2018-2027.
