The green bond market is emerging rapidly as an instrument for investors to channel resources into environmentally friendly projects. According to Environmental Finance over $40 billion in green bonds were issued in 2015. In this address, Sean Kidney, who is at the forefront of this emerging market, considered the potential of green bond financing as a means to tackle the climate problem, renew aging infrastructure and create an economically viable future. He also discussed the outcome of COP 21 and how green bonds can help to realise the commitments made in Paris.

About the Speaker:
Sean Kidney is the CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative, an international NGO working to mobilise debt capital markets for climate solutions. In this role he has overseen projects including a green bond definitions and certification scheme with $34 trillion of assets represented on its Board; a Green Infrastructure Investment Coalition; and a collaboration with the Chinese central bank’s green finance task force on how to grow green bonds in China. Mr. Kidney holds an Irish passport and is also a Consultant on Green Bonds to the United Nations Secretary General.
