About the Speech:
The IIEA hosted a defence policy roundtable with leading academics from the Republic of Austria and the Republic of Finland. The roundtable looked to analyse the contemporary security and defence challenges faced by their respective home countries, in the light of recent developments in the area of EU defence policy and the new Global Strategy.
About the Speaker:
Dr Hanna Ojanen is a Jean Monnet Professor at the University of Tampere, Finland. She has previously served as Programme Director of the Research Programme on the European Union, at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, and Head of Research, at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. Her research focuses mainly on inter-organisational relations (particularly EU-NATO-UN) and European and Nordic security policy.
Dr Heidi Maurer is Assistant Professor at Maastricht University, Netherlands. She was previously the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Fellow at the Centre for Transatlantic Relations (CTR) at the School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC. Her research interest focuses on EU foreign policy-making, European diplomacy, and the European Neighbourhood Policy.
