As part of the IIEA’s Future of the EU27 Project, Dr Nathalie Tocci, lead penholder of the EU Global Strategy, briefly traced the origins of the 2016 EU Global Strategy and followed this up with a discussion of her current work on implementing the Strategy, notably in the field of security and defence. As a privileged player in this process, drafting and coordinating the work on the EU Global Strategy, Dr Tocci used the lens of the Strategy to discuss the impact of Brexit on the future of European foreign and defence policy.

About the Speaker:

Dr Nathalie Tocci is Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, and Special Adviser to EU HRVP Federica Mogherini, on whose behalf she wrote the European Global Strategy and is now working on its implementation, notably in the field of security and defence. Previously she held research positions at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, the Transatlantic Academy in Washington and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies in Florence. She is also a honorary Professor at the University of Tübingen.
