On Monday, 27 May 2019, as the constellation of the next European Parliament becomes apparent, the IIEA gathers an expert panel offering insight and analysis of the key issues arising from the election results. With current polling suggesting a more fragmented European Parliament, the panel will focus on the EU’s law-making machinery and consider what the results will mean for future legislative output. They will also discuss the balance of power between the EU’s institutions and future appointments to top European jobs.
About the Speakers:
Lucinda Creighton is CEO and Founder of Vulcan Consulting, a public affairs consultancy which advises clients on all aspects of EU policy. She previously served as Minister of State for European Affairs from 2011 and 2013. She was a TD for Dublin South-East from 2007 to 2016.
Marian Harkin has been an Independent MEP for the Midlands/Northwest region since July 2004. In April 2019, she announced she would not be seeking re-election for a fourth term as an MEP. Sitting with the ALDE Group, she has served as a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs from 2009.
Dr Emmanuelle Schon-Quinlivan is a lecturer in European political science in the Department of Government, UCC. Born in France, she graduated in European law and political science from La Sorbonne (BL), Sciences Po Paris (MA) and Edinburgh University (LLM).
