In his address to the IIEA, Professor Sean Kay looks ahead to the 2020 US Presidential Election and consider the significance of foreign policy through the campaign. Professor Kay examines the election of Donald Trump in a historical context. He also explores how foreign policy tends to manifest itself in primaries, as already witnessed among the current Democratic candidates. Finally, Professor Kay reflects on the various potential outcomes of the election and their implications for Europe and for Ireland.
About the Speaker:
Professor Sean Kay is Robson Professor of Politics and Government at Ohio Wesleyan University and Mershon Associate at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies at the Ohio State University. Professor Kay has previously worked with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels, the US Institute for National Strategic Studies in Washington D.C., and as a consultant for the US Department of Defense and the National Intelligence Council. Professor Kay also served as a policy advisor to Barack Obama (2007-2008) and to Bernie Sanders (2016) in the areas of foreign, European, and Irish policy
