Recent years have brought many positive changes to Central Asia including domestic reform, the development of Euro-Asian connectivity, and the more cooperative role played by Central Asian countries towards Afghanistan. Ambassador Peter Burian discusses the new EU Strategy for Central Asia, outlining the EU’s vision of building a modern, non-exclusive partnership to secure a more resilient, prosperous, rules-based economic and political space.
About the Speaker:
Ambassador Peter Burian was appointed as the EU Special Representative for Central Asia in April 2015. From 1999-2003, Ambassador Burian was Head of Slovakia´s Mission to NATO in Brussels. He was the Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the United Nations from 2004 to 2008 during which time Slovakia held a non-permanent seat on the Security Council. From 2008 to 2012 he served as Ambassador of Slovakia to the United States in Washington D.C. Prior to this appointment Ambassador Burian served from 2012 as First Deputy Minister of Slovakia.
